Our latest ‘I’ve got an Idea’ Fund award goes to Mitchell Fawcett, an artist and maker in Devon whose interest is in immersive experiences designed to reduce stress, improve focus, and help people feel more connected in workplaces, teams, and shared environments. His idea is to experiment to see if a contactless 60GHz radar sensor can read someone’s breathing accurately enough to gently lead it — and whether a light that effectively “breathes with them” can slow their breath and settle their nervous system, without anything physically attached to them and no screen involved.
Mitchell explains that biofeedback almost always means wearables and screens — themselves overwhelming for many autistic and sensory-sensitive people. Mitchell’s project innovation is contactless, ambient, and environmental: the space regulates you, with nothing touching you and nothing to look at. Our award will enable Mitchell to experiment to see if his idea works.
